21 anglers fished, almost all club members. The fishing itself was
damaged by strong East/ South East winds that meant Dab catches were
down on previous weeks and the average size was noticeably smaller too.
However, it was still a very interesting competition with lots of close
weights at the scales (17 out of 21 anglers weighed in) and really good
to see both some old faces coming back and some new faces too.
Congratulations to Mark, Tony and Ken on taking the overall honours

REPORT FROM MICHAEL CHALK

Hi Roly.
First report from his hairyness in 2012.
One fished the towers on 06/01/2012 between 20.00 and 00 00. one other brave soul Don aka Pigtin was also in attendance.
Shed loads of Whiting caught beetween us and one nice Dab caught by Don.
I had 18 good size keepers that have now taken up residence in the freezer.
Happy new year mate. will see you soon
Andy aka Hairy Pollocks
Thanks for the report Andy
Unlike most years the Whiting that normaly leave the North Kent Coast before Christmas are still here in good numbers i am still getting reports of them being caught at Hampton Jetty and Reculver after dark.

A bit soon for another report but an amazing number of dogfish caught at
deal last night for the time of year. Report as follows:
Fished just after Tuesday’s storm abated the latest Deal Angling Club 1919 competition produced Wall-to-wall dogfish. Richard
Yates bucket produced a writhing mass of 39 fish (mainly dogfish)
weighing in at a fantastic 12.700kg for an easy win. Second place went
to Dale McGurke with a 9.020kg bag and Robbie Holmes-Brown came third
with 8.690kg.. Dale also took the heaviest fish pool with a dog of 930g
and also heaviest flat with a Dab at 120 grams.
Most of the top
weights came from the groynes at Sandown. Such numbers of Dogfish at
this time of year is unheard of a Deal and perhaps reflects the mild
weather so far this winter. The total catch for the 18 members fishing
was 395 sizable fish weighing a total of 111.220kg.
Thanks to Dave Andrews for the fist report of the year
