                                                 2011 REPORTS

31/12/11
The last entry for this year.... with the fishing off Herne Bay being very slow and the weather conditions being against fishing localy  some of the lads have gone further afield and started to fish Dymchurch and Dungeness the boat fishing has been very good  two notable fish this year Brian Gaymers 35 lb er and John lukes 31 lb er (pictures below 23/12/11 report)  . Oh and what a fabulous Bass on the beach at Dungeness 18 lb 15 3/4oz one very happy man . Lets not leave Herne Bay out of it alltogether a good run of Bass from Barry Seabrook late in the year and dont forget those Smoothounds back in September.
Anyway i would like to wish all my readers a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy New Year
P.S
Has anyone seen Dean Fox's boat i think it was cleared up by the Lifeboat as  flotsam

Report in from Dave Andrews for the 1919 club Deal

Ken Withington won the three-hour beaxch match with a mixed bag of dogfish and whiting of 8.500kg. Second was Dave Chamberlain’s 7.380kg, and third was Alan Underdown with 7.060kg. Alan also had the heaviest fish, a dog of 1.020kg. Most of the top weights came from Walmer Out of the dabs that were caught, Robbie Holmes Brown managed the best with a 240g specimen and took the flat fish pool. Some anglers had as many as 6 or7 dogs in their bags which is a surprise for so late in the year, perhaps reflecting the high water temperature for the time of year.

No codling last night but Anfy Manning had one of 1.630 k.g. in the previous match 2 weeks before
Thanks for the report Dave

FISHING JUST 750 MILES NORTH OF HERNE BAY IN KENT

Cod almighty! Man catches 80lb whopper big enough to make 135 fish suppers

A proud angler holds aloft his prize catch - a huge 80lb cod big enough to make 135 fish suppers.

The un-named fisherman caught the monster on an angling holiday off the coast of Norway, where massive catches are becoming more common.

Atlantic cod weighing more than 40lb are regularly recorded in Norwegian fjords, compared to 15lb and 20lb fish in domestic waters.

Peter Collingsworth, of Angling Direct Holidays, said: "Norway isn't in the EU. As a result, they look after their waters and fish stocks which is why there are still plenty of them."

However, this monster is still 18lb short of the world record - a 98lb Atlantic cod caught off New Hampshire in 1969.

Another reason for the increase in enormous cod numbers in Norway is the melting of the Arctic ice.

The receding ice has opened up larger areas of shallow Arctic water in the sea where young fish flee to avoid predators.

Fisherman Kaare Ludvigsen said: "On behalf of future generations, I'm truly glad for the cod count."

Angling holiday packages are booming, with more and more fishermen spurning the English Channel and North Sea and flying north instead.

A few mackerel have been showing at Hampton Jetty Herne Bay the numbers of fish have been fairly low but last night and this morning they came  in , some anglers were catching upto 20 fish in about a hour mostly coming on the last of the flood tide . The shoals are fast moving so you need to keep a look out for them the best feathers are sabiki s  in the mid to small sizes .

Boat fishing over the last few weeks has been slow for the boats from Herne Bay but the Charter boats from Ramsgate have been getting an exceptional number of  Tope  Dave Hancock Skipper of Excel 2 out of Ramsgate has had upto 14 in one trip the best fish have been in the 45 to 50 lb range .

the Mackerel are in round the coast  the Addy has had good catches so has Sanphire Hoo but pick your days as they dont seem to show on a south or south west wind .

HBAA held it 38th two day  dinghy festival this weekend there were 30 entries the fishing started at 07.00 on Saturday. For Chris King the first day went well he managed almost 64lb  and had a leed over the rest of the competitors of almost 3lb .in second place was Barry Palmer with about 60lb and in third was Darren Kennedy. On sunday the weather had changed and strong winds from the SW were predicted this would limit the how far out the boats could safly go. The second day of the  competition started at 08.00 but things were not going so well for the leader Chris he only managed to find 2 Dogfish to add to his total but in second place Barry managed find another 19lb to give him a winning total of 79.346lb .

Les Bates and his son Robert went to Dungeness yesterday they had plenty of Dabs and Whiting Robert had  7 good size Dabs, he was also feathering for the Sprats which were there by the million, nothing much else to catch as all the other fish are so pre occupied by the white bait.
