The snow over the last few weeks has caused mayhem all over the country and it has'nt helped the fishing around the kent coast either .The freezing tempretures in the early mornings has pushed all the worms deep and forced all the small fish ,crab and shrimps into deep water..The next problem will be the fresh water in the sea when all the snow melts .

Having listened to all the sad storied on the news about pepole not reciving there presants in time for christmas from internet companys may be people should think about going back to shopping in there local shops where they can pick stuff up and take it home with them might not be quite as cheap but at least it will be there for christmas.

The boat fishing this week off the North Kent coast has been fantastic with al the boats reporting good catches of Bass many of them have found Bass upto 8lb and in large numbers. Julian Tuck from Cliftonville launched at Palm Bay had a great day with over 60 bass being caught the best was a fish of 7lb, he kept 6 fish and all the others were returned , he used Ragworm and sandeel .
The beach anglers are still catching Bass and Mullet from the Kings Hall Herne Bay through to Reculver fishing with Plugs ,Spinners Feathers,Flies and ragworm all produce good numbers of fish. I have heard of fish upto 4lb on every method .This week with the neap tides the amount of sea weed should be noticeably reduced  making the fishing much easier.

Where are the Mackerel????  Charlie Turnner and Trevor Buggs went to Samphire Hoo yesterday looking for some fresh Mackerel for bait, after a few hours of feathering and no Mackerel they move on to Hythe , there had been reports of people catching up to 100 Mackerel in a session but again after several hours still no Mackerel back to Samphire Hoo in the afternoon for another try .the result for the day 3 Mackerel .If you know where they are let me know !

What great sport Steve Richards catches Mullet on the fly Clousers in various sizes are most productive you should be able to get a selection of Bass flies from your local tackle shop  if not Roly at Ron Edwards Fishing Tackle in Herne Bay keeps them . Shoals and shoals of small fry have come to Herne Bay and the guys that have gone out on boats  with the spinners have done very very well for Bass wedge shape spinners in the 85gm size with a set of feathers or hokkai's are the best , if you find the birds working then gills and shads of various colours are working as well .If you prefer to fish with bait then Ragworm and fillets of Mackerel should have you catching the bass Squid and fish baits will produce Skate and Dogfish . I have also heard that there is a number of Black Bream being caught around the Black Rock area off Reculver . George Watford fishing the out fall off the Kings Hall (The Chair) had a 6 3/4 lb bass on wed evening 23/6/10 .

Tommy Bennet fishing on the beach within Herne Bay Club limits with Bluey Bait 40 yards out had a fablous fish of 9lb 12oz a little disappointed that it was short of the 10lb mark it would have been his 5th double in the last 3 years from the beach in Herne Bay .
This week there have been some strange things happening in and around Herne Bay waters, shoals of Bass have been within 50 yards of the beach I'am sure they are confused and think they are Mackerel.Mullet have been running with the Bass and are taking sabiki feathers, best one on the feathers is about 4 1/2 lb caught by Richard Hannington from the Harbour Arm in the dark.If your a fly fisherman this has got to worth a try , the fly boys have reported having upto 40 Bass in an evening session at low tide .
Boat fishermen have been finding shoals of Bass topping all the way through the north Kent coast alot of the fish are small and have been returned but those that have the patience to fish a bait have been having fish upto 8lb and alot in the 3lb - 5 lb  size range the best results come from Ragworm  Squid and Mackerel
Steve Crimmins fishing just past the Kings Hall Herne Bay had a 4 1/2lb Mullet on Peeler Crab there are some strange things going on

Stewart Brown fishing at Seasalter last week end reported a good catch of Flounders the best  was just short of a 1lb may be sign of thing to come .There are still Dabs being caught at The Kings Hall in Herne Bay best report to date was 16 on one late tide last week by john Seager .
The boat anglers continue to suffer at the moment
The commercial fisher men are starting to get bass in the channel so lets hope some of the Bass  manage to get to the North Kent Coast this year

After more snow this week the prospects of the fishing on the north Kent coast getting better has been dashed again , but i am still getting reports of fish being caught around the coast at Dover ,Deal, Folkstone and Dungeness . The main species that are being caught are dabs and the best reported baits are lugworm and lugworm and fish cocktails.

January
The fishing in January was at very best unspectacular, however, locally in Herne Bay there has been a rumour of some Dabs being caught at The Kings Hall. as the snow melts and disipates into the estuary the fishing on the North Kent coast generally deteriorates, this is due to lack of food for the fish caused by excessive amounts of fresh water. As the amounts of melt water diminishes this problem will be rectified and fish will start to return as their food (e.g. prawns, crab, shrimp, etc.) return to the shallows.

Elsewhere in Kent the fishing has been mixed with Dabs from the river at Rochester and Gravesend.  Further round the coast there have been mixed bags of Dabs Whiting Pout and Cod the best area has been Dungeness where there has been up to 6  Cod per rod .
